Event Lab – A high density sensor network
Optiqua EventLab is based on Optiqua’s awarded and patented Lab-on-Chip sensor technology. The technology measures refractive index changes of the water matrix induced by a contaminant, without the use of chemicals or other consumables. EventLab sensors respond to the entire spectrum of possible chemical contaminants at ppm level.
The sensors are supported by a web-based software, EventLab Online, which provides our customers with a web based user interface, real time alerting and a network wide overview. EventLab Online is optimised for use with large sensor networks. It integrates real time algorithms for data validation and analysis to identify relevant contaminations in real-time in the distribution grid.
Low maintenance and high durability of the sensors allow for an economically viable network covering the entire distribution process.
Event Lab – Proactive Water Quality Control
The major components of the Optiqua EventLab early warning system consist of a patented optical chip, dedicated electronics and software, data processing algorithms, and data communication. Deployed as an online sensor network, the EventLab system allows (i) early detection and rapid response, (ii) accurately locating and real-time monitoring of the spread of a contamination within the network, and (iii) timely action to minimize damages (public health, economic and reputational).
Data are transferred through wired and/or wireless communication to a data warehouse where it is automatically processed by event detection algorithms in order to detect anomalies from the normal variations of the drinking water matrix. In addition, the EventLab system can interface directly with SCADA systems, permitting the integration with existing operational support and control systems.
Event Lab – Unique Benefits
The unique benefits of the EventLab solution compared to traditional monitoring solutions are:
- Real time continuous measurements.
- Sensitive to any chemical contamination.
- No consumables and low maintenance.
- High density sensor placement guarantees reduced response times, optimised response measures and localization of the contamination source.
- Easy interface with SCADA systems, serving as valuable input for decision support and control systems.
